On January 28th 2021, the representative office of Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation e.V. in Ukraine held a web conference for its Ukrainian and international partners in order to celebrate the successful closing of the “Responsible Finance” project – implemented from late 2016 to early 2021 – and start the new project “Rural Finance for Sustainable MSE Development”.
The Sparkassenstiftung representatives Mr. Matthias Fohs (Head of Division Europe & Central Asia), Mr. Matthias Pfaff (Country Representative Ukraine) and Mr. Branko Wehnert (Regional Director Caucasus & Ukraine) gave valuable insights on the past and planned project work with special focus on the promotion of MSE development in rural areas in the face of climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic and other risks. The key speakers Mr. Stephan Hartenstein and Ms. Tetiana Adamenko, Ph.D., elaborated even further on the challenges for managing sustainability risk by the financial sector respectively the consequences of climate change in Ukraine. Furthermore, business trainer Ms. Tetiana Romanenko provided practical examples of how MSEs can become more resilient through adequate trainings.
As it was understood from the contributions of the Ukrainian partners The Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, The National Center for the Training of Bank Personnel of Ukraine, The Independent association of the banks of Ukraine, DVV international, All-Ukrainian Association of Credit Unions, the Banking University and affiliated NGOs and institutions, the work of Sparkassenstiftung in Ukraine is highly appreciated and necessary.
Together with representatives from German Embassy & KfW, the Ukrainian partners are looking forward to a continued good and successful project work in the upcoming year.
